Not An Asterisk

The Shooting Wire ran a feature from Vanessa Warner who is the Manager of NRA's Disabled Shooting Services.

Turning onto the base between the stone towers with their red roofs always brought a feeling of excitement and anticipation. As I drove down the long entrance road past the military equipment toward the guard house I was thinking about how different this year was compared to the last time I was here. The last time I made the right turn onto the base was in August of 2000 when I traveled to Camp Perry to compete in the long-range phase of the National Rifle Association's National Matches. This time, although the circumstances were different, the feelings were the same.

As the new Manager of Disabled Shooting Sports for the NRA, I was attending the pistol phase as both a spectator and an employee. My goals, while clear, were anything but simple; learn about bullseye pistol shooting, meet the volunteers, range staff, office staff and introduce myself to any shooters with disabilities.
