For the past few days several junior shooters have been training diligently with NRA coaches learning the ins and outs of pistol shooting and competition. To date they have fired .22-caliber and air pistols, participating in competitions in both guns. Campers have also been instructed on range safety, the fundamentals of pistol shooting and technique among other things. Each shooter will be firing .22-caliber pistols this afternoon on turning targets. The camp will finish up tomorrow with an awards ceremony on Range 2 beginning at 11:00am.
A special thanks goes out to Ed Masaki and members of the Bullseye-L List for raising funds to support junior shooters through the auction of a Masaki firearm in 2007. Proceeds also helped fund camp shirts for the 2008 NRA Junior Pistol Camp.
Camp participants are: (back, l. to r.) Clake Hardesty (Bullseye-L List), Annette Reichman (Range Safety Officer), Richard Pearson (coach), John Howard (NRA Representative), Jake Howard, Wolfgang Zober, Charlie Moyer (coach), Ed Masaki (Bullseye-L List), Donald Weber (coach), (front, l. to r.) Alex Tomarelli, Carl Busse, Garrett Toler, Colin Moyer and Beth Lutz.
Carl Busse rests his pistol on a sandbag during the air pistol portion of the camp. This is one of many positions shooters progress through in the new Progressive Pistol Program.
Alex Tomarelli demonstrates the advanced air pistol shooting stance in the new air gun range at Camp Perry, OH.
