Today I sat in on a few lectures of the Small Arms Firing School, here at Camp Perry. There are about 400 people who are registered for the two-day course. The majority of students are adults, but a few children are also in attendance.
The small arms firing school is broken up into two phases for pistol shooters which includes firearms safety and instruction of fundamental marksmanship skills.
During the lectures that I attended, US Army Sergeants were instructing on range safety/rules, and offering tips and devices that may help competitors advance their marksmanship skills.
This was the first time I have attended a course such as this. The time that I spent in the class was informative and I actually took something out of it give the limited background that I have in firearms.
Tomorrow, the students will shoot an M9/Beretta on Perry's range and will be instructed by top military team shooters. Once the course has been completed, Perry will host the M9 Pistol EIC Match, which will be optional to students of the small arms firing school. This is open to competitors who currently have no EIC points.
More information on the small arms firing school can be found at www.odcmp.com/NM/SAFS.htm.
