Never over the hill

I just got back from the volunteer banquet, and one thing stuck out -- there were a lot of people who were honored for their dedication to the National Matches, and those people are very important in supporting the 2nd Amendment.

I have a lot of respect for Jim and Blanche Hill. See, I could do a feature (or make Steve do it, because I have the power to make him write it) about them, and interview them, but if you know these people, it wouldn’t be right. They probably wouldn’t talk a lot about themselves. They are very quiet, humble people. They let their actions speak for themselves. They’re the type of couple that shows their muscles when needed. When Blanche first saw me at Camp Perry, even at the Bianchi Cup this year, she greeted me with a friendly hug. It was the type of hug that you would get from a close family member.

Also, you can tell by the way that they look at each other, even if at a quick glance, that there’s deep and true love for one another. In my opinion, every couple, before they get married, should learn from those two. They just seem to really work together well.

Jim and Blanche are a real treat to know and work with. The NRA has honored them with a brick on the Memorial Brick program at the Shooters Memorial Plaza here at Camp Perry.

Though a brick is a nice way to say thank you, those two have already built a foundation for future high power match directors and general volunteers to continue the traditions that shooters enjoy here. If I know them well enough, that’s all they’re looking for.
