Vanessa Warner excitedly pulled me aside this afternoon. "There's a deaf shooter on the line," she said.
Newly appointed as the NRA's Manager of Disabled Shooting Services, Warner takes these sorts of things very seriously. Read about a previous experience from this year's National Matches here.
She'll be writing an article about Perry competitor Dan Gleeson of Delaware in the near future. Gleeson and his teammates have devised a system of communicating while on the firing line to compensate for Gleeson's deafness. He reads lips, and relies on a small model of a bullseye his scorer or coach can point to to show his score. Corbin Shell is pictured in the slideshow with Gleeson.
