We’ve come a long way since 2000, the first year Women’s Programs held Instructional Shooting Clinics:
Women On Target Instructional Shooting Clinics create more opportunities for women to learn all about firearms, and to gain confidence in newly-acquired shooting skills. That's it in a nutshell. There were only 13 ISCs in 2000. In 2008, we expect to have a record-breaking year. It’s projected that we will have 7,000 women go through a WOT ISC. We are also expecting to have well over 240 clinics. We also have a page set up where you can find a Women On Target Instructional Shooting Clinic near you.
- Learn safe firearms handling
- Learn how to store your firearms safely
- Learn to shoot
- Learn a sport you'll enjoy for a lifetime
Being a man, I’ve never been able to attend one of these clinics, so I can't personally comment on how they are. However, I can't think of a better way to introduce someone into the joys of the shooting sports.

2008 was the 5th WOT ISC at the Howell Gun Club in Michigan. My name goes out as the contact person for registrations and notes of thanks are addressed to me but it takes the 5 others who make up our core planning committee and the 70 HGC members who volunteer their time on the day of the clinic to make our WOT so successful. My work is mainly before and after the clinic. It is truly inspiring to watch the clinic take place and to see the smiles on the ladies faces, especially those who came in "afraid of guns". All the work that goes into putting on a clinic is worth every bit of effort that it takes. In order for future generations to have the opportunities that we often take for granted (like the 2nd Ammendment) we need to win over the moms. We look forward to our 6th WOT in June of 2009.
