Glen Hoyer, the director of NRA’s Law Enforcement Activity Division, took a few minutes to talk with us about the upcoming National Police Shooting Championships.
Q: What are you looking most forward to?
Hoyer: Well, we’re looking forward to our new pre-event, the New Mexico Challenge, which aims to bring new competitors into the law enforcement competition world. It’s a stock semi-auto match that’s more low-key than the championships to make the newcomers feel comfortable, so they hopefully return to shoot in the championships themselves.
Another thing we’re excited about is our armorer schools, made possible by firearm manufacturers and available to NPSC competitors.
Q: Any predictions on the weather?
Hoyer: We expect, as is typical for the Albuquerque area, to have bright sunshiny skies and moderate temperatures.
Q: Any predictions on who will take the gold this year?
Hoyer: Nope. It’s a wide open playing field.
Q: Anything you’d like to add?
Hoyer: We've worked very hard to increase the number of trophies and prizes awarded. We’re also glad to have more vendors this year. And we’re happy to have NRA News broadcasting live on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 22 and 23.
We’re particularly excited about our guest speaker at Wednesday night’s banquet, R. Lee Ermey, the Gunny.
