Distinguished Revolver Championship underway

Blue skies over New Mexico

Talking to a few competitors waiting their turn for the Distinguished Revolver Championship, the topic of weather once again came up.

"I remember back in the 80s when we were in Des Moines," one said, "we were shooting prone and we were lying in puddles of water. We literally were sitting in water."

Today is all sun. The temperature has exceeded the expected high of 81 degrees, as we are now at a comfortable 84 degrees.

I'm off to get some pictures of the Distinguished Revolver Championship. Don't forget, as soon as it concludes, we will be moving on to the Service Revolver Championship.

Match One's results were just posted:

In first place with a perfect score of 240-24x is Enoch Smith.
Second place is Robert Vadasz with a score of 240-23x.
Third place is Jerry Eason also with a score of 240-23x.

Details and additional placements are posted across from the NRA Store in Building B.

U.S. Peacekeeper

NRA's Executive Director of General Operations Kayne Robinson and Deputy Executive Director Andrea Cerwinske

U.S. Peacekeepers' booth in the Law Enforcement Exposition closes in an hour, so hurry to buy your NRA-stamped pistol and range bags. Also on display is their line of rain gear, cases, and gloves.

As supporters of NPSC, U.S. Peacekeepers staff are donating pistol bags to the prize pool. The durable, camouflaged bags are displayed by NRA's Executive Director of General Operations Kayne Robinson and Deputy Executive Director Andrea Cerwinske, above.

U.S. Peacekeeper staffers also assisted with the award office's organization of this year's massive influx of awards and prizes.

1500 match from 50 yards

Open Class Revolver 1500 Match

The Open Class Revolver 1500 match is moving around on the range. I made it out in time to get some photos from the furthest point this match goes, the 50 yard line. Shooters go from standing to prone to sitting.

Most of the stalls are full, but my lens isn't wide enough to capture everyone.

The firing line at the Open Class Revolver 1500 Match

A referee who goes by "Swampy" escorted me up to the firing line so I could get some close-ups. I always laugh when competitors introduce themselves to me and say, "You took my picture out on the line." I usually don't remember or recognize competitors unless they're wearing a memorable shirt.

Update on the "God made cops so firemen would have heroes" shirts: Chief says a booth in Building B might be selling them.

Dep. Chief of Police honored

City of Albuquerque Deputy Chief of Police Michael Castro received an award from the Trinidad & Tobago police department during NPSC today.

Corporal Andrew Williams, pictured to the left of the Chief, had this to say about their decision to honor him: "Last year when I got home from NPSC 2007, I told our Police Department about the Chief, and we decided to give an award … based on his camaraderie and helpfulness."

He and his fellow Trinidad & Tobago team members came back this year with more practice under their belts.

"We're doing pretty good — we're doing better this year than last year, because we knew what to prepare for," he said. "And we'll be back next year, too."

"This has been an experience we will never forget."

Relay 2

The back of the range

The PA announced last call a few minutes ago for Relay 2 of the Open Class Revolver 1500. Reports from the line say the match is running on time.

The photo above shows a row of competitors' and spectators' tents along the back of the range. It's like an NPSC tailgate.
