Chad Kurgan of Tuolumne reasserted himself as one of the best shooters in the land — three times over — during the Mother Lode Gun Club's July high-power rifle match.
Kurgan, 17, claimed three national records with one scintillating performance in the rapid-fire prone category. His score of 200-13X — he nailed all 200 targets with 13 perfect dead-centers — gave him the record in the National Rifle Association's junior, open and civilian classes.
He previously shared the junior record of 200-6X with his coach, Robert Taylor II of Columbia. Kurgan now shares the open and civilian marks with a shooter from Oregon.
